Robb Barr - 1986 Al Stohlman Award Winner

Announcing the Winners of the 1986 Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft

Winner Robb Barr

The second recipient of the 1986 Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft is Robb Barr of Bismarck, ND.  Robb’s selection for the award was based not only on his expertise in the art of leather but also for his ability to overcome obstacles many never face in life.  A former Colorado State Prison inmate, Robb turned to leathercrafts to help him deal with his situation.  Basically self-taught in the art, Robb began studying leathercraft in 1976.  He continued to pursue the craft and following his release from prison, chose to use his skills in his own studio.  Along with his studio work, Robb has been active in art shows, teaches leathercraft class to mentally disabled persons and is breaking ground for the beginnings of a leather guild in Bismarck.
