Over the history of leather carving, different regions of the country have inspired and developed their own distinctive styles of leather carving. Most leather workers are aware of only what is popular and frequently posted, today, and are unaware of the history and legacy that has brought leather carving to what they see today.
In this online class from Elktracks Studio, Jim Linnell spends some time introducing one of those regional styles; Texas Style Carving. Jim discusses some of the unique differences of this style as he shows both classic and contemporary versions of this style.
In the course of this class, Jim carves a classic Texas Style pattern in the manner of the masters of a previous generation of leather craftsmen; it is part carving instruction and part history lesson. For those of you who have taken our previous classes, you know that it's always uniquely insightful when Jim starts sharing his vast knowledge of leather carving history.
