Beyond the Basics - Learning the Tricks of the Professionals
Jim taught his first class on leather carving in 1976 and, in that time, he has introduced countless thousands of people to leather working. Over that time, there is one question he has been asked hundreds of times in one way or another; “why doesn’t my carving look as good as yours?”
While practice is key, it doesn’t completely answer the question they are really asking. What they are really wanting to know is what has he learned in those 50 years of practice and can he tell them his secrets?
While experience and practice are still the secret, there are a few things that Jim shares in this video about how he does his carving that give him the results that he likes. This class is for that craftsman who might think their leatherwork has stopped improving but doesn’t know how to get to the next level.
Jim Linnell is a Stohlman Award winning leatherworking instructor who has dedicated his life to the advancement of the art form and the preservation of its history.
