Beth Berry - 1995 Al Stohlman Award Winner
Beth Berry Receives the 1995 Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft
Congratulations to Berry, the 1995 recipient of the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft. The event was the International Federation of Leather Guilds show at Springfield, Mo., in October.
Beth Berry was born, raised and educated in Wyoming. She married Jim Berry in 1946. They own and operate a large ranch north of Cheyenne, Wyo. where they raised their two sons – and also raised Herefords. Around 1955, when seeking a hobby, Jim bought his wife a beginner set of leather tools, a Lucky Seven book and some leather. And, thus, began Beth's fulfilling career of leatherwork which continues today. Beth's ability to create beautiful things in leather led her to do hundreds of commissions of leathercraft for awards at livestock shows, rodeos and other civic functions. For many years, Beth entered her work in the state and local fairs, and won dozens of prizes. Beth has authored and successfully marketed her own book of 25 leather projects called, Custom Cowhide Creations (still available). Her ability with leathercraft soon led directly to judging positions in Cheyenne and other areas of Wyoming. Judging leathercraft in turn, led to the area of leathercraft she likes the best - that of teaching. Year after year, Beth taught leathercraft to the 4-H and some scouting groups in the Cheyenne area. She still conducts classes, seminars and demonstrations in Wyoming for half the year and the other half in Sun City, Ariz. Her teaching continues to be the strong point of her career. Always for Beth it's her delight to pass on her knowledge to others. It's this kind of dedication which follows the example of Al and Ann Stohlman that the Al & Ann Stohlman Award Foundation is both pleased and proud to present the award medallion and a check for $1,000.
